What Is CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical, evidence-based approach that focuses on the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Rather than exploring childhood history in depth, CBT works with what's happening now — helping you identify patterns that aren't serving you and develop concrete skills to change them. CBT is effective for anxiety, depression, stress, phobias, and many other concerns.

How It Works

CBT is built on the idea that our thoughts influence our feelings, which influence our behaviours — and that changing any one of these can create positive change. Your therapist will help you identify 'automatic thoughts' — the quick, often negative interpretations your mind makes in challenging situations — and teach you to question and reframe them. Between sessions, you'll practice new skills and track patterns in a simple journal or worksheet.

What to Expect

Sessions are structured and collaborative. You and your therapist will set clear goals and work toward them step by step. You'll learn practical techniques like thought challenging, behavioural experiments, and relaxation skills. CBT is typically short to medium term (6-20 sessions), and you'll leave each session with something concrete to practice.
